What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin porcelain shells that are made to give your teeth a brand new shape and shade. They are made of a composite tooth-colored resin and we make them ourselves in our office with our CEREC machine. Dental veneers can completely give you a new smile. Some patients only require one or two veneers to make a big difference, while some have them placed on all of their front teeth. Porcelain veneers are permanently bonded to your teeth and must be replaced every 10 years or so. They are long lasting and strong solutions we recommend for those patients who want a better smile.
Are Porcelain Veneers Right for Me?
Porcelain veneers can solve a multitude of cosmetic dental issues. Some of the most common include:
- Chipped Teeth
- Misshaped Teeth
- Gapped Teeth
- Stained Teeth
- Cracked Teeth
- Uneven Sized Teeth
Although porcelain veneers can solve all of these problems, this doesn’t mean they are right for everyone. We don’t recommend porcelain veneers for patients with unhealthy teeth, patients with periodontal disease or gum disease, have teeth that are still growing in, patients who grind or clench their teeth, and lastly, patients who don’t have good oral health or general health. These patients are not candidates for porcelain veneers in Springfield because all of these problems can cause the veneers to fail which as a result will end with them falling out. You don’t want to have teeth that are worse off after cosmetic dentistry treatment. They should be healthier. Veneers do not solve dental imperfections, they merely cover them up. You may need other treatments if your goal is to treat a problem rather than cover it up.
Porcelain Veneers Procedure
The procedure for porcelain veneers is quite simple. First, you will have a consultation and dental exam with Dr. Buzbee where he will determine if porcelain veneers are the right choice for you. You can discuss what you like and dislike about your smile and together you will devise a plan for how many veneers you need and what the end results will look like. Following the planning, our cosmetic dentist will need to shave down a small amount of your enamel in order to make room on your teeth for your new veneers.
Afterward, Dr. Buzbee will take impressions of your teeth using our CEREC machine, and within minutes, the CEREC will begin milling your new veneers. Once the veneers are ready and we have determined that they are the right shape and color for you, we will permanently bond them to your teeth. You won’t have to worry about the veneers falling off because only your dentist can remove them. Following the procedure, you will need to take care of your oral health in order to maintain the veneers. You should also avoid any situations that can result in a facial injury or tooth injury otherwise your veneers can be knocked out. Take good care of your veneers so you can go longer without replacing them.
Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
There are lots of benefits of choosing porcelain veneers to treat your cosmetic dental issues. First of all, porcelain veneers can give you a beautiful and perfect smile with only one simple procedure. This sounds much more convenient than dealing with orthodontics and a teeth whitening treatment in order to achieve a perfect smile. Another benefit of porcelain veneers is that your veneers cannot be stained. If you eat or drink a lot of staining food and drinks, porcelain veneers might be a more ideal solution for you than visiting us for a tooth whitening treatment every 6 months or so. You can eat or drink whatever you want without needing to worry that your veneers will stain.
Another benefit of porcelain veneers is that they provide you with the cosmetic benefits you have been searching for. If you have a gummy smile, veneers can help elongate your teeth. If you have widely spaced or a few crooked teeth, veneers can make your teeth look like you just underwent orthodontics for the past year without the hassle of actually dealing with an orthodontic treatment. In addition, veneers provide you with beautiful and natural looking results that are customized to match your smile. You don’t have to worry about your teeth looking fake because our dentist will work with you to ensure your end results are what you want.
Lastly, dental veneers are a fast procedure with little to no recovery time. This means you can come in wondering about veneers and leave with a brand new smile. You won’t need to take time off of work or deal with a painful recovery process. A porcelain veneers treatment is a quick, easy and effective way to achieve the smile you want.
